What is Mixed Medicine?

I have learned on my journey that re-connecting to the earth and the elements, really to the entire non-human world, has the power to heal us. The work of mixed medicine is to reconnect us to the indigenous healing practices of our Ancestors all over the globe, while also holding as Sacred the Ancestral legacies and the impact of the great MAAFA, Settler Colonialism, Genocide and Oppression.

The work to heal our lineages and to connect to our Ancestors of Blood and of Heart, has been my work for over 20 years. I have had the incredible blessing and hold seriously the incredible responsibility of sitting at the feet and learning from teachers (healers, incarcerated people, professors, creatives) of all backgrounds.

The message is clear: love, community, creativity, justice, compassion, forgiveness, accountability, equity and beauty are the only answers to heal ourselves, our planet and our relationships with each other.

To this end, I believe, and science is now catching up, that the answers to our healing combines integrative medicines, energy work, meditations, yoga, bodywork, allopathic (western) medicines, art, movement, song, music, nature, ritual, faith, and the natural "non-human" world.

Mixed Medicine is also for me about being "mixed", of multi-racial backgrounds that at times conflict, it is about that journey for me to integrate to wholeness, the joys and the pains of my lineages, my privileges, my oppressions, my faiths, my traditions, and those that have nurtured, nourished, and poured love and healing into me.
